Dear Valued Professionals,
With the colder weather now upon us, it’s time to wrap up warm and initiate a winter health plan.
We suggest that at staff meetings, topics to review are, flu and other vaccinations, hand hygiene, efficient mask wearing and clinic protocols. Discussions with client’s as to your requirements of them regarding illness notification and cancelation policies.
However, it’s just not the weather that is changing.
In this newsletter we cover,
This month I have received another two injury complaints. One client has suffered severe burns to their face, which a dermatologist has said is permanent. Another person received laser burns to their neck.
These serious injuries and the manner in which the clients were subsequently treated bring our Profession into disrepute, highlighting the need for us to lobby the Authorities to engage with us to develop appropriate standards and education.
1] Industry Qualifications
In a recent email to Community, Health, Education and Social Services WDC [Toitu Te Waiora] regarding our qualifications, they provided the following information,
Community, Health, Education and Social Services WDC [Toitu Te Waiora’s], Qualifications are being reviewed by their Qualifications Product Developer. “Once completed, the review outcomes will be published on the TTW website for perusal by both those involved in consultation, and any other interested parties who may wish to comment. Feedback to the review outcomes will be open for a two-week period and you will be welcome to provide feedback, if you feel it necessary, during that time”.
Are you concerned as to what has been updated and why such a limited timeframe has been provided for feedback?
The Board would like to hear from any one who has contributed their views and submissions during this process. We would like to discuss what your expectations are as a result of this review.
2] The Development of Skill Standards and National Curriculum
“With regard to feedback for the development of Skill Standards and National Curriculum, the work is still in the NZQA / WDC’s co-design discussion phase. Each WDC has designed a template, which will then be reviewed with the intent of bringing all the concepts together to build a working prototype. NZQA will invite feedback as part of its public consultation on the prototype prior to the third reading of the Amendment Bill. This is likely to be published in late June. It may help to bookmark the following webpages, if you have not done so already”, https://www.nzqa.govt.nz/
