Dear Industry Professionals,
Well, here we are almost at the end of another year, and what a year it has been.
With the remaining few weeks being so busy for everyone, this will be our last newsletter until next year.
As a national organisation, we understand our responsibility to provide standards, information, and guidance to all sectors of our industry.
It has been a huge year in which we have
- Provided advice on Covid Recovery, including a internationally recognised infection control plan - ISICC Pandemic Infection Control Program
- Dealt with an upsurge of complaints, advising clients and therapists on how to handle these unfortunate incidents. This will be a key focus for us in 2023 as we seek to safeguard the hard earned reputation of responsible therapists
- Successfully advocated on your behalf on the WDC/RoVE process and winning the fight to retain the Beauty Therapy as a Diploma level course.
- Gaining recognition that Skin Therapy is a Health related discipline under the ANZSIC industry classification system
- Entered an international partnership with APAN, Australia's predominant skin aesthetics professional body.
The big news leading up to Christmas is the availability of the 2022 Health, Hygiene and Safety Standards For the NZ Aesthetic Industry and the IPL / LASER Code of Practice, developed by the NZ Laser Training institute
 These hygiene protocols sit alongside the NZBPST Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, Constitution, Scope of Practice, the Complaints Process, our International Safety and Infection Control Charter and our Pandemic Response Plan |
 The IPL / Laser Code of Practice (COP) has been developed by the NZ Laser Training Institute Ltd. It recommends appropriate levels of expertise and training for IPL and Laser operators, provides safety guidelines for clinics operating Laser and IPL devices, and provides a summary of the current relevant rules and regulations in New Zealand. |
We all know that to create a professional industry, it can’t be done by one person. It takes a community.
So, a big shout out and thank you to Latasha, Charlotte, Linda, Ruth, Jay, Matt, Emma & Chris, Tina, Sally, Shannen, Margaret, Lorna, Kylie, Adriana, Fiona, Dianne, Karen, Leah, Heather and many more.
Thank you also to those of you who took time to write emails supporting the retention of our level 5 beauty therapy diploma and other proposed qualification changes made by Toitu te Waiora Health WDC. Without your support and feedback, we could have lost this vital diploma if it wasn’t for your help.
