Happy New Year and welcome to 2021 everyone!
With the continuation of changes in education from last year, the New Zealand government are changing the way in which the beauty industry training will be provided and governed in the future.
The existing industry training organisations are to be replaced from approximately June 2021 onward, which will have significant implications on the quality, costs, and implementation requirements for industry training.
As the NZ Board of Professional Skin Therapies is recognised as a major industry stakeholder by the Ministry of Education and on your behalf, we have been able to persuade the ministry to recognise the beauty therapy industry as being associated with the health, community, and social services WDC sector rather than in Creativity, Culture, Recreation and Technology WDC sector.
The Ministry of Education is now seeking to make changes to the law including this and other requirements and will close off public input on 5 February.
There are several items in their proposals that we must change as in our view, the changes will fail to improve standards and will merely increase costs by adding a layer of bureaucracy to an already poorly governed and managed training structure.
The Ministry of Education is seeking feedback and, frankly, they are not making this easy and rushing to push their agenda through.
They have set up a questionnaire on their website “Have Your Say” and we need as many people as possible to respond to this, so our views are taken seriously.
WE NEED YOU TO TAKE ACTION
We are asking you to give 15 minutes of your time to complete the MoE Order in Council submission form so we can ensure the future of our industry is safeguarded for us, our staff, and our clients.
The MOE submission form is anonymous, and you are not asked to provide any personal details, unfortunately it is not easy to simply type in your views as they have made it necessary to go though each question page in turn.

MoE has indicated that in order for them to take our requests seriously, they need to see proof of our interest and input. So please support industry.
Also, please find attached our petition form and collect as many signatures from your clients, staff and public as possible. Forward to us by the 1st Feb so we can lodge it with the ministry. We have a submissions box on our website.
